When (not if) you have a client that seems completely unreasonable, try to first give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe their text came across different than they intended or they were making a joke that didn’t work in the format they were using. Give them the benefit of the doubt and try not to take anything they say personally. Try also to talk to them to better understand what’s going on and what they’re seeing from their point of view. This tends to clear up 90% of issues, but if you’ve tried your best to see things from their point of view and made every attempt at working through an issue or miscommunication and they’re still completely unreasonable, drop them like a zombie shuffling toward your Mom. (Of course, make sure you do it when contracts allow. If you break a contract it makes you look bad and will probably make things worse between you.) Just because they are your client doesn’t make them right and it also doesn’t make them your boss (unless you choose to look at them that way)
