SVG Compression and the Undead

Like a limbless zombie, SVG paths are almost always the most compact form of drawing in SVG and optimizers will typically turn other elements into paths to make the SVG smaller. However, they can only optimize what’s already there. If your graphics program converted a drop-shadow into an image (a common though unnecessary step), they won’t be able to rewrite that image, or put it back into a vector.
